Thank you volunteers and runners

Thank you everyone who helped host and participated in the October 30 2010 Barefoot and Clothes Optional Fun Run at Rooster Rock.  We had both men and women runners.  Because of the wind, the course was rerouted through the woods and willow thickets according to the backup plan.  Besides being protected from the wind, the runners agreed that the air temperature was quite pleasant for running through the woods.  The trails were a mix of sand and hard packed clay covered with autumn leaves in some places.  Thank you again.  Henry

Oct 30, 2010 5K barefoot and clothes optional fun run rain or shine

Gathering for the 5K barefoot and clothes optional fun run starts at 11:30 rain or shine.  Run starts at noon.  We have 2 options and who ever is running can vote for the option he or she prefers.  Option 1 if weather cooperates, run 2.5 km out to the Columbia River, and along the Washington side of Sand Island and return for a total of 5 km.   Perfect for running barefoot on the sand the entire distance.  Option 2 if the weather does not cooperate, run along the Forest Bluff Trail out to the river and back for about 2.7 km, then run to and along the Dragonfly Trail. At 3 km, run out an back along the Otter Trail.  Then out and back for the remainder of the Dragonfly Trail.  Return to the starting point via Buffalo Trail for a total of  4 km.  Option 2 offers some protection from the wind but expect to get wet if it rains.  You may want to wear shoes as there are sticks and stones along the wooded trails.  Bring a towel to dry off if it rains and water to drink if you don't want to walk up the hill to the restrooms.  We will have a volunteer to keep time and watch our stuff at the starting point/finish line.

End of the summer Rooster Rock 5K fun run October 30, 2010 at noon

End of the summer Rooster Rock 5K fun run

Saturday, October 30, 2010

Start: noon.  Gathering begins 11:30 am

Fee: free for the 5K run but you have to pay the Oregon State Park day use fee to get into the park.

Staging / start-finish area:  the the bottom of the gravel ramp, 200 yard beyond the East end restrooms, at the far east end of the parking lots at Rooster Rock State Park.  There will be signs indicating that this is the west boundary of the clothes optional area.

Distance:   5 Kilometers.

Course:  soft and hard packed sand, out to and along the Columbia River.  This is the western end of the scenic Columbia Gorge.

Awards:  none, unless we can find some sponsors.

This is a free event where you can run barefoot because it is entirely on sand or even without any clothes because it is through a clothes optional beach.  You don't have to run barefoot or nude but no one will mind if you do.  This is an event to bring awareness that Sand Island is to be shared by clothed and nude users alike in peace and harmony.
